Filling our foodbank for Otago families in need.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions our foodbank has experienced demand like never before. With financial stress due to job losses and pay cuts, we are seeing large numbers of new families becoming vulnerable and experiencing hardship for the first time. And the economic impacts are expected to last for some time.
Our foodbank is experiencing high demand but also low supply, as community donations of food items are down due to current restrictions. We need your help now to fill the foodbank and keep up with demand.
Your continued support for our foodbank is needed even as we transition to other Alert Levels. Our social workers and budget advisors are working through an increase in referrals as the flow-on effects of COVID-19 continue to impact our economy and communities. We know that it will take some time for businesses to rebuild themselves and for people to get back on their feet.
Our foodbank is the busiest in Dunedin and supports the wider Otago region. Over 300 emergency food parcels are distributed each month, including over 10,000 items, with over 200 children benefiting. The foodbank is an integral part of the wrap-around services Family Works provides across the Otago region.
Your donation will make an immediate difference for people in need. Help is needed NOW! Whether you can spare a little or a lot, we have 4 suggested giving options, or you can select a custom amount. There is also an opportunity to become a Friend of the Foodbank by making a regular monthly donation.
