What a wonderful day it was! On 23 June we held our 8th Octacan event in Dunedin. The Octagon in the centre of town was taken over by thousands of cans, all laid out in heart shapes. School groups, sporting clubs, businesses, families and passers-by flocked to the Octagon, all in support of our Family Works foodbank.
While the weather was not on our side, the community certainly was! The final tally for the event was 18,301 cans. A new record!
Octacan is one of the most important events held by Presbyterian Support Otago each year. The cans and cash raised during this event stock our foodbank through to Christmas. Each month the Family Works foodbank distributes 10,000 items in emergency food parcels. This includes, tinned, packaged and perishable food items.
