Welcome to volunteering at Presbyterian Support Otago

Volunteers are a huge part of our services and history. We’ve been walking alongside people, regardless of age, background or religious belief, for more than 100 years. Every year, in aged care and social services, we support and empower thousands of people, families, whānau and communities.

If you share our passion for this purpose and would like to experience the joy of giving back to your community, we’d love to hear from you!

Why volunteer for PSO?

We truly value our volunteers, they are seen as a central part of PSO. Our teams are full of caring, creative, reliable and energetic people. We recognise that without our amazing team of volunteers, we wouldn't be able to do what we do! We hope volunteers enjoy making a difference in somebody's life whilst developing their own interpersonal skills. Volunteers get the opportunity to meet new people, establish new friendships and have fun!

In return you will get a ‘helpers high’. Volunteering can lead to a rush of euphoria and the release of endorphins. This effect is known as ‘helper’s high’!

Volunteering at PSO you’ll benefit from:

  • Being part of a community. Volunteering can help you feel part of something outside your friends and family.
  • Giving back to the community in a meaningful way.
  • Volunteering and being involved with your community which is strongly linked with feeling good.
  • Being part of a well-known and highly respected not-for-profit organisation.
  • Making a real difference to the lives of others.
  • Gaining confidence. Volunteering can help you gain confidence by giving you the chance to try something new and build a real sense of achievement.
  • Meeting people. Volunteering can help you meet different kinds of people and make new friends.
