Activities Volunteer - Balclutha

What: Assist with afternoon activities, encouraging and supporting residents to join in with activities.
When: 2 hours a week, Tuesday and or Thursday afternoons.
2 hours Wednesday and or Saturday mornings. 
Where: Holmdene,  15-17 Elizabeth Street, Balclutha 


What would you do? 

Holmdene is seeking volunteers that would be happy to read the newspaper to residents at Holmdene on Saturdays mornings, this could be carried out weekly or fortnightly. 

Holmdene is also seeking volunteers to assist staff with activities, this could involve happy hour entertainment, quiz's, reading books/papers to residents, age appropriate sports, crafts and cooking. Or perhaps you have a skill you could teach to others. Assisting staff to transfer residents, in wheelchairs and lounge chairs, from their living areas to and from events within the facility. Assisting with the service of afternoon tea.

Requirements

You should be friendly, reliable, trustworthy and have good communication skills. 

Volunteers need to be physically capable of pushing wheelchairs and assisting with moving furniture like chairs so residents can access activities.

Volunteers should have a natural interest in older people, have patience, a caring and respectful attitude and be happy working as part of a team.

As you will be stepping into the 'Home' of elderly people we take great care in who our volunteers are. All of our volunteers need to complete a Police Check and provide references. All volunteers will receive appropriate training and supervision for their role and will be required to sign a Code of Conduct. 

Time commitment

2 hours per week or fortnight.

Afternoons
1:30 - 4:30pm Tuesday and or Thursday afternoon - Assisting with activities 
2 - 4pm Wednesday afternoon - Reading newspapers and helping with afternoon tea.

Saturday Morning - Reading the newspaper.

Volunteers that can commit to 6 weeks or longer are preferred.
