What would you do?

Volunteers visit elderly people, to spend time with them, have a chat, provide social engagement.

Residents will love chatting and having a laugh with you as you bring a little bit of the outside world in with you, making conversation about things happening in the community, and sharing your own stories about travel, work or just everyday life!

Never underestimate the power of the volunteer hour. One hour of social engagement enriches the lives of older adults. Friendships and connections are important. Studies have found socially active seniors have higher satisfaction with life, are happier and have a lower risk of depression and anxiety.

Never underestimate the power of one volunteer hour, its rewarding and in return you will get a ‘helpers high’. Volunteering can lead to a rush of euphoria and the release of endorphins? This effect is known as ‘helper’s high’!

Ranui and Castlewood, in Alexandra, offers its residents a safe and secure home with great food in a beautiful location in scenic Central Otago. They also provide rest home or hospital level care, dementia care and respite or palliative care.
