Friend of the Home - Dunedin

What: Be a friendly face for residents, assisting with tasks and little jobs that they can't perform themselves.
When: 2 hours a week, flexible on a day and time that suits you.
Where: Enliven St Andrews, 8 Easther Crescent, Kew, Dunedin. Elmslie House in Wanaka is also looking for volunteers to fill this role.

What would you do?

Resident Support is a new volunteer role. Volunteers will get to know residents, becoming that friendly face within the unit.
St Andrews Home and Hospital offers rest home and hospital level care and a supportive community for residents, with friendly staff and freshly cooked meals creating a home-like atmosphere.

  • Help residents to make their room homely, change the water in the vase, hang some art or photos in the room.
  • Listen to residents needs, socially engage.
  • Carry out tasks with a can do attitude.
  • Help with room tidiness, wardrobe organisation.
  • Ensure residents laundry has been returned.
  • Chat, banter, laugh and build relationships.
  • Engage with residents in a friendly manner.
  • Give your time weekly, fortnightly depending your availability.
  • You will receive a full orientation and training.

No two days are the same, 2 hours goes very fast and it's a wonderfully rewarding experience. Beware, you might experience a 'helper's high' as your volunteering can lead to a rush of euphoria and the release of endorphins!
