Outing Assistant - Wanaka

What: Assisting staff and supporting residents on their weekly van outing. Social engagement and practical support. 
When: Wednesdays, 9:30 - 3:00pm. Or a morning or afternoon.   
Where:  Aspiring Enliven Care Centre,  21 Cardrona Valley Road, Wanaka.

What you would do? 

Can you give a day, morning or afternoon to accompany Aspiring Enliven residents on their Wednesday van outing? Work alongside staff supporting residents getting on and off the van, engaging residents in conversation during the outing. The van is driven by staff and does a morning and afternoon outing. 

• Ensure that residents are safely transferred from the unit into and from the van during the trip.
• Engage with residents in a friendly manner during the outing.
• Provide companionship during the outing/activity to enhance their experience.
• Outings contribute to residents cognitive, physical, emotional, and social wellbeing. Residents also love chatting and having a laugh with volunteers. 
• A staff member with current first-aid will accompany you and the residents.
• Outings go very fast and it's a wonderfully rewarding experience for the volunteers.

You will receive a full orientation and training, you will always be working alongside staff.

This role would suit a volunteer who is flexible with time as Aspiring Enliven likes to do two trip on a Wednesday.

Aspiring Enliven Care Centre is purpose-built to capture the best of Wanaka's views and climate, offering rest home or hospital level care, rest home level dementia care and respite or palliative care. 

Requirements | Checks you can expect 

You should be friendly, reliable, trustworthy and have good communication skills. 

Volunteers need to be physically capable of pushing wheelchairs and assisting with moving furniture like chairs so residents can access and participate in activities.

Volunteers should have a natural interest in older people, have patience, a caring and respectful attitude and be happy working as part of a team.

As you will be stepping into the 'Home' of elderly people we take great care in who our volunteers are. All our volunteers need to complete a Police Check and provide references. All volunteers will receive appropriate training and supervision for their role and will be required to sign a Code of Conduct.

Time commitment

Between 9:30 and 3:30pm. 

Volunteers are needed Wednesdays. 

Ideally we would like a volunteer that could commit to both Wednesdays outings for about 5-6hrs. Or a morning trip from 9:30 - lunch, or afternoon from lunch until 3:30. This could be weekly or fortnightly depending on your availability. 

Volunteers that can commit for at least 6 months or longer are preferred.
