What would you do?

Companion Visiting service is a lovely service. Volunteers visit elderly people, to spend time with them, have a chat, help with a small project (e.g. sorting photos), go for a walk with them or whatever both you choose.

Residents will love chatting and having a laugh with you as you bring a little bit of the outside world in with you, making conversation about things happening in the community, and sharing your own stories about travel, work or just everyday life!

Never underestimate the power of the volunteer hour. One hour of social engagement enriches the lives of older adults. Friendships and connections are important. Studies have found socially active seniors have higher satisfaction with life, are happier and have a lower risk of depression and anxiety.

There are many benefits of companionship:

  • Helps residents stay socially fit, and it’s something to look forward to.
  • Can improve mental wellbeing, relieving stress and improving memory.
  • Contributes to a better sleep and boost energy.

Never underestimate the power of one volunteer hour, its rewarding and in return you will get a ‘helpers high’. Volunteering can lead to a rush of euphoria and the release of endorphins, this effect is known as ‘helper’s high’!

Located on a sunny site on Stone Street you will find Elmslie house which offers rest home care for up to 31 residents in a supportive community.
